Shoulder Trauma
AC Joint Fracture / Dislocation
Acromioclavicular (AC) joint injuries range from mild sprains to complete ligament disruptions. They often result from direct impact to the shoulder. Rockwood classification helps grade the severity (Type I to VI). Low-grade injuries (Type IโII) are treated conservatively with rest, ice, and physiotherapy. Higher-grade injuries (Type IVโVI), especially in athletes or manual workers, may require surgical stabilization using techniques like hook plates, suture loops, or reconstruction of coracoclavicular ligaments. Chronic instability or deformity may affect function if untreated. Return to sports depends on the grade and treatment modality but generally occurs within 2โ3 months.
