Scapula Fracture

Scapula fractures are uncommon and usually result from high-energy trauma, such as motor vehicle accidents or falls from height. They often occur with other thoracic or shoulder injuries. Most scapular body and spine fractures are treated non-operatively with sling immobilization and gradual rehabilitation. However, fractures involving the glenoid neck, intra-articular glenoid, or acromion with displacement may require ORIF. Advanced imaging helps evaluate displacement and planning. Surgical outcomes are generally good, but recovery can be prolonged due to soft tissue trauma and stiffness. Full functional recovery may take several months with structured physiotherapy.
